Michael Sweet of Stryper

Music has always been a big part of Michael Sweet’s life. At a very early age, his parents took him, his brother Rob and sister to their first concert at the L.A. Forum to see the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. If that wasn’t enough, it was also the night that Led Zeppelin was in attendance. The show was legendary. It was then that Michael decided that music would be his career. His father (a country/rock-a-billy singer) would take him & his brother to the studio with him. Michael & Rob would play at the sessions. At 12 years old, he joined his (brother’s) first band “Fire Storm”. They changed their name to ‘Rocks’, then “Rocks Regime”, then in 1983, they changed their name to “Stryper”. Since Michael was on “the scene” at such a young age, the Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll soon caught up with him. Feeling “burnt out” he and the band decided they needed a big change. So they decided to do something new, something that they believed in. They decided to devote the band to God.
